How your IELTS Writing band is worked out.
Your overall Writing band is the average of your four criterion bands — Task Response, Coherence & Cohesion, Lexical Resource, and Grammatical Range & Accuracy — rounded to the nearest whole or half band. Task 2 counts for twice as much as Task 1. Because the average is rounded, a small gain on one criterion can move your whole band.
